Nutbush Volleyball League Rules

Eligibility:

  • No team shall be permitted to play unless the roster has been completed and the league fee paid prior to the established deadlines
  • A team consists of 6 players. A team may play with as few as 4 players. At least 2 to players on court must be female
  • Teams can have no more than 10 people on one roster.
  • Players can be a member of only one team per league, per night
  • All players in the league must be at least 21 years old

The Game/The Match

  • A game will be played to 15 points. A team must win by two points.
  • You will play 3 games each night- you will turn your score into the bar for the number of wins (0, 1, 2, 3)
  • A strict 60 minute time limit exists for all matches. Rally scoring will begin at the 45 minute mark to finish matches nearing the time limit.

Serve/Return
  • In the first game, the serve will be determined by a volley
  • Service takes place from any position behind the backline boundary
  • The server MUST announce the score out loud before serving the ball. He/she should always announce his/her score first. A “side-out” (loss of serve) will result if the served ball strikes any part of the net
  • No blocking, setting or attacking is allowed by the receiving team on the serve

Playing the Game

  • Teams may score points only when they are serving
  • Once a volley starts, if a team uses three hits to return the ball at least one hit must be a female
  • A player may not step on or over the “line” under the net. This is for everyone’s protection
  • A player may not hit the ball twice in succession
  • Players may NOT touch the net with any part of their bodies. Each player is responsible for calling his/her own nets. BE HONEST!
  • Players must call their own double hits (when a ball touches more than one part of your body)
  • All players are eligible to attack the ball. There will be no designated “back row” players
  • A ball that touches any part of the line is good

Playing the Ball

  • The ball must be allowed to break the plane of the net. A player may not go over the net to contact the ball on a block or hit
  • No “carries”
  • No two-handed spiking

Interference

  • Branches or ball from the other court will be considered interference if they extremely disrupt a play.  The play will then be replayed
Rainouts

  • Rain outs will not be called until game time, be here and be ready to play. You can call the bar for rainout information, but games are usually only canceled if it is lightning
  • Games in progress will start over unless a team has at least 10 points and is winning by 3 points

Things to Remember

  • The ball is not to be kicked or whipped over the net
  • Disputes should be solved between the teams. When in doubt, just replay the point
  • A 15 minute time limit will be given to allow enough players on teams to show up. If a team passes the limit, the match will be considered a forfeit
  • Report all scores to the bar; it is the responsibly of the captain to report all scores
